Racism Theory and Studies Workshop has started with the moderation of Nazife Kostukoglu; a PhD student in Bogazici University.
The workshop aims to inform the participants with an approach of blending history and theory, then to analyze the description and conceptualization of racism and finally to build up productive discussions on “race”, gender and class relations. Throughout the workshop, several questions will be asked and answered:
“What’s the difference of racism and nationalism?”
“Through which mechanisms does racism operate in the 21st century?”
“What does ‘everyday racism’ mean?”
“How does racism become ordinary?”
In the first part of the workshop, various theoretical and empirical studies will be scanned; approaches used for comprehending racist manners and policies will be analyzed. In the second part, different processes, policies and attitudes that take place in Turkey will be discussed.
